This post gave me lots of food for thought, especially because my wife and I are in the third category - I am typically the saver and she is the spender (although not egregiously so). I find that regular communication between us helps keep us aligned on our financial goals, spending and saving. And perhaps most important is that each of us have to compromise towards the other's POV every so often. Its ok to disagree as long as the disagreement does not lead to a balanced compromise. Cheers!
