In the Media
This week I was quoted in The Epoch Times!
This was fun for me because it was my first time being quoted on something related to geopolitics.
The article is titled: China-Taiwan Conflict Would Be a ‘Flashpoint’ for Global Financial Markets, Experts Warn.
I decided to sprinkle in the “Flashpoints” term to pay homage to George Friedman’s 2016 book of the same title.
Remember, George Friedman has had the greatest impact on me as an investment manager. This is one of the reasons why I am different and why I advise other investment advisors.
I highly encourage others to read George’s prominent views to get a unique perspective on the world.
I believe as more investors understand geopolitics, they can assess the potential investment impact for themselves and make better investing decisions.
It’s George’s geopolitical framework that lead me to tweet back in December 2021 that the most underappreciated risk the market was not considering at the time was what was happening in the South China Sea.
I also spend many late nights reading geopolitical strategy from the world’s top policymakers and think tanks.
Some clients ask where I come up with my perspectives on the market.
In the past I’ve put together a few good resources like this one, but I intend to formalize my library in the future.
This week I am currently reading To What Extent, If Any, Is the U.S. Economy at Risk of Becoming “Japanized” found in The International Economy.
I like this article because it has over 30 different economists argue over the potential that the US economy goes through a “lost decade” similar to Japan of the early 1990’s.
This is in line with my current theory that The US is headed to Japan, if we don’t prepare today.
The article is also timely because it was written back in the fall of 2021, before most investors had priced in inflationary pressures, but current enough to account for changes in a post-covid era.
I think it’s important to hear opposing sides to any core thesis.
Reading from all sides helps me strengthen my own arguments for or against any loosely held belief.
What this can do for you as an Investor
This week I took the time to write exactly how investing within a geopolitical framework can help you as an investor.
I was featured as a guest author on the Stock Quest Substack, which you can read here.
It’s a quick read.
Basically the article outlines what is geopolitics, why it is important and what it means to you as an investor.
Check it out if you have the time.

I’m not a geopolitical expert by any means. So, my favorite features have been when you discuss specific stocks, commodities, etc, and relate those items to the general mood of the market and geopolitics. Examples being the uranium article not too long ago, or the article you are reviewing about the US becoming “Japanized.” Keep ‘em coming!
