As an investment guide for founders, innovators, and exceptional leaders— I love seeing other founders succeed.
This week, huge news came out that an old friend from high school, Feross Aboukhadijeh, has raised $20M Series A funding led by Andreesen Horowitz from a16z for his company Socket Security.
Socket Security allows developers to detect and block potentially malicious code of open source repositories.
The company has expanded their detection techniques to include an AI assisted threat assessment supporting Javascript, Python and Go.
You can read more in the TechCrunch article here.
Long time readers know that I have written about Feross’s projects in the past.
I introduced Socket Security to my readers back in May 2022 in the post Supply or Demand:

The importance of a free and open internet cannot be understated.
Socket’s goal is to safeguard the open source ecosystem for everyone.

Again In my post, The top 5 things I wish someone told me before I started investing... I outlined why Feross’s side project Wormhole is the simplest, easiest way to send files anywhere in the world without a login.
I removed the paywall from both posts so anyone interested can go back and learn more.
We are excited about the next chapter of innovation this will bring to the open source community.
I believe the only way we can protect a free internet is by supporting open source and tackling the ever changing cybersecurity landscape with innovative technologies.
I’ll be sure to continue to share relevant updates of the company in the future.
